Michael S. Jaffee, MD
Michael Jaffee is the Bob Paul Family Professor of Neurology and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida (UF), where he is the Director of the Brain Injury, Rehabilitation, and Neuroresilience (BRAIN) Center. He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Psychiatry, Sleep Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine.
Before coming to UF, Dr. Jaffee spent 21 years in the US Air Force, where he served in many capacities, including National Director of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. There, he managed a network of 18 sites, and his team’s efforts contributed to deployed medical research and the publication of over 100 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Jaffee is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association. He serves on the AAN Brain Health Committee and on the AAN Public Education Editorial Board. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) and was recently named Chair of the BIAA Brain Injury Action Coalition.
Dr. Jaffee’s research is funded by agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services. His work topics include traumatic brain injury (TBI), Alzheimer’s disease, interface of sleep and neurological disorders, sleep and performance, and social and environmental determinants of health in neurodegenerative conditions. Dr. Jaffee has dedicated a significant part of his career to developing innovative educational and research collaborations between the Department of Defense, federal agencies, academic institutions and other stakeholders.
