Erika Fullwood Augustine, MD, MS

Dr. Erika Fullwood Augustine is Associate Chief Science Officer at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Associate Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Her clinical research program focuses on advancing therapeutic development for rare pediatric neurological disorders, with emphasis on comprehensive clinical phenotyping and trial design in the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses.

Dr. Augustine is an Executive Committee member of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders (NINDS) Child Neurology Career Development (K12) Program and is Associate Editor for Annals of Neurology. She also serves as a board member for the American Brain Coalition. Dr. Augustine is a prior recipient of the Sidney Carter Award from the American Academy of Neurology.

Nancy Bass, MD

Nancy Bass is Professor of Neurology, Chief of Child Neurology and the Bleser Family Endowed Chair of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She is currently the Director of the Neuromuscular program and Co-Director of the Neurogenetics program.

She is certified by the ABPN in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Bass serves on the Neurology Council and on several committees.

Dr. Bass has over 20 years of experience as a Child Neurology Residency Director. She has won numerous teaching awards in her career and received the Child Neurology Society National Training Director Award in October 2024. She also received Fellow Distinction for the Child Neurology Society (FCNS) in 2024. Dr. Bass served as the President of the Professors and Educators of Child Neurology and is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Child Neurology Society Educators Committee. She was recently selected as a new member of the ACGME Neurology Review Committee.  She has served on the Board of Directors for the Child Neurology Society as the Councilor to the Midwest, as well as the Board of Directors for the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialities (UCNS). She also served as a senior associate editor for the Pediatric Neurology journal and was on the ACGME Milestones 2.0 committee.

Amy Brooks-Kayal, MD

Dr. Brooks-Kayal is Professor and Chair of Neurology, and the Andrew John Gabor, MD, PhD Presidential Endowed Chair at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine in Sacramento, CA. Previously, she was Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she served as Chief and Ponzio Family Chair in Pediatric Neurology for 12 years. She was a principal investigator and co-director of the Translational Epilepsy Research Program at University of Colorado. Dr. Brooks-Kayal is recognized as an international expert in the field of epilepsy and has received an American Epilepsy Society (AES) Founders Award, a Child Neurology Society (CNS) Bernard Sachs Award, and was named an Ambassador for Epilepsy by the International League Against Epilepsy in recognition of her record of lifetime achievement in the field of epilepsy.

She is certified by the ABPN in Epilepsy and Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Brooks-Kayal serves on the Neurology Council and several ABPN committees. She is also the ABPN liaison to the AES, the Association of Academic Leaders of Neurology (AALN, formerly Association of University Professors of Neurology), and the American Neurological Association (ANA).

Dr. Brooks-Kayal currently serves on the Executive Committee of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders (NINDS) Child Neurology Career Development (K12) Program, on the External Advisory Board (EAB) for the NINDS Epilepsy Therapy Screening Program and as Associate Editor for Epilepsy for the Annals of Neurology. She was previously President of AES, councilor of the ANA, AUPN and Professors of Child Neurology (PCN), and a member of the NINDS Advisory Council.

Ericka P. Greene, MD, MACM

Dr. Greene is Professor of Clinical Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, and at Houston Methodist Hospital. She is the Sumner Family Chair in Neuromuscular Research at Houston Methodist, Full Clinical Member, Houston Methodist Research Institute and Vice Chair of Education in Neurology. She is also the Associate Dean of Medicine at the Vashisht College of Medicine and School of Engineering Medicine. She is certified by the ABPN in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN director, Dr. Greene serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.

Aatif M. Husain, MD, MBA

Aatif M. Husain, MD, MBA, is Professor in the Department of Neurology and Chief of the Division of Epilepsy, Sleep and Clinical Neurophysiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He also serves as Co-Medical Director of the Neuroscience Clinical Service Unit and Medical Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratories at Duke.

Dr. Husain is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, and Sleep Medicine and participates in continuing certification. He has served for nearly two decades as Program Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship and for over a decade as Program Director of the Sleep Medicine fellowship at Duke, reflecting his longstanding commitment to education and physician training. In 2022, he completed an MBA, complementing his leadership roles in academic medicine and national professional organizations.

Dr. Husain has held numerous national leadership roles, including President of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, Treasurer of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology, National Director of the VA Epilepsy Centers of Excellence, and member of the Board of Directors of the American Epilepsy Society. His editorial leadership includes service as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology and Associate Editor of Clinical Neurophysiology Practice. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Husain serves on the Neurology Council and multiple ABPN committees.

Dr. Husain is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist whose work focuses on epilepsy, critical care EEG, intraoperative neuromonitoring, evoked potentials, sleep medicine, and the application of artificial intelligence in clinical neurophysiology.

Michael S. Jaffee, MD

Michael Jaffee is the Bob Paul Family Professor of Neurology and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida (UF), where he is the Director of the Brain Injury, Rehabilitation, and Neuroresilience (BRAIN) Center. He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Psychiatry, Sleep Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine.

Before coming to UF, Dr. Jaffee spent 21 years in the US Air Force, where he served in many capacities, including National Director of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. There, he managed a network of 18 sites, and his team’s efforts contributed to deployed medical research and the publication of over 100 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Jaffee is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association. He serves on the AAN Brain Health Committee and on the AAN Public Education Editorial Board. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) and was recently named Chair of the BIAA Brain Injury Action Coalition.

Dr. Jaffee’s research is funded by agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services. His work topics include traumatic brain injury (TBI),  Alzheimer's disease, interface of sleep and neurological disorders, sleep and performance, and social and environmental determinants of health in neurodegenerative conditions. Dr. Jaffee has dedicated a significant part of his career to developing innovative educational and research collaborations between the Department of Defense, federal agencies, academic institutions and other stakeholders.

Jaffar Khan, MD

Dr. Khan is Professor and Betty Gage Holland Endowed Chair of the Department of Neurology at the Emory School of Medicine.

He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Vascular Neurology, and Clinical Neurophysiology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Khan serves on the Neurology Council, the Board Executive Committee, and several ABPN committees.

Dr. Khan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and has served numerous professional organizations, including Chair of the Consortium of Neurology Program Directors, Vice Chair of the AAN Education Committee, Chair of the Graduate Education Subcommittee, and Chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Neurology Review Committee.

Benn E. Smith, MD

Dr. Smith is Associate Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Scottsdale, Arizona. He is the Director of the Sensory Laboratory and a Consultant for the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic.

He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine, and participates in continuing certification.  He also is certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Smith serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.

Dr. Smith has served as the co-director of the biannual Mayo Clinic EMG/EEG Clinical Neurophysiology Course in Phoenix, Arizona, for a number of years. In addition to ABPN, he has been involved in leadership and committee positions with the AAN and AANEM for the last decade. His research focuses on measuring sensory function, identifying new patterns of peripheral neuropathy deficits and use of novel techniques such as contact heat evoked potential stimulation to study spinothalamic and other small diameter nerve fiber pathways.
