ABPN Sleep Medicine diplomates who were certified in 2013 now have until early 2024 to register for entry into the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment pathway or the traditional continuing certification examination.
The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) will allow entry into their longitudinal knowledge assessment (LKA) for Sleep Medicine for ABPN Sleep Medicine diplomates with certifications now due to expire in 2024, beginning in January 2024. The longitudinal knowledge assessment is an alternative to the traditional continuing certification examination.
ABPN diplomates may apply for either the traditional continuing certification examination or the new LKA using the appropriate Sleep Medicine application available on December 1, 2023, through their ABPN Physician Portal.
If your Sleep Medicine certification is due to expire in 2024 and your registration for the longitudinal knowledge assessment is received and processed by the ABPN between December 1, 2023 – June 15, 2024, please be aware that the ABIM requires that you set up your ABIM portal and begin participation in the LKA prior to June 30, 2024. If participation in the LKA has not started by June 30, 2024, diplomate participation will not be successful in 2024 and you will be required to apply for the traditional continuing certification examination. Early and continued participation in the LKA will allow an easier path to successful participation in the ongoing Sleep Medicine longitudinal knowledge assessment.
If your Sleep Medicine certification is no longer current, please contact the ABPN at questions@abpn.org to have the registration for the 2023 Sleep Medicine Continuing Certification examination opened in your ABPN portal.
