How to Not Peak at the End of Training: Lifelong Learning and ABPN Certification

In these two brief videos, ABPN President and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Lyness offers thoughts on how to continue to develop as physician specialists after completing residency or fellowship training, and how initial and continuing certification by the ABPN fit into that landscape and promote lifelong learning.

These videos may be viewed separately or together in sequence. They may be used as stand-alone brief learning modules. However, we strongly encourage training program directors to show the videos in trainee seminars, particularly for more advanced trainees (i.e., senior residents and fellows). The videos may be used as springboards for group discussion about lifelong learning with program director or other faculty participation, including the challenges and rewards of maintaining and developing one’s specialty or subspecialty expertise in the years after completing formal training.

Physicians in practice also may find these videos useful to inform self-reflection or group discussions about lifelong learning in the context of ongoing careers.
