Dr. Cheong is Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL and a Physician with the VHA VISN 8 Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), also in Gainesville FL, and serves as a geriatric psychiatry consultant to the VHA National Expert Consultation and Specialized Services – Mental Health (NEXCSS-MH).

She is certified by the ABPN in Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Cheong serves on the Executive Committee as Board Secretary, on the Psychiatry Council, and as Chair and Vice Chair of several ABPN committees.

Dr. Cheong serves on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Board of Directors and as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee.  She is also a liaison to the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP).  In the past, she had served as a member of the ACGME Psychiatry Residency Review Committee. Dr. Cheong specializes in geriatric psychiatry, undergraduate and graduate medical education and training, and academic leadership development and mentorship. Dr. Cheong has served on numerous committees over the past 25 years within the Association for Academic Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association (APA) and AAGP. She has served as Chair of the APA Scientific Program Committee in 2009 and 2013 as well as over 28 separate appointments on various APA Components since 1994. Within the VA, Dr. Cheong has been actively involved in the national VHA Office of Academic Affiliations and has served as an Associate Chief of Staff/Education at the North Florida/South Georgia VHS and as Assistant Chief, Psychiatry for Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. She has been an examination writer for various committees at the ABPN since 2004.
