Iqbal “Ike” Ahmed, MD
Dr. Iqbal “Ike” Ahmed is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Geriatric Medicine at John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), University of Hawaii. He was formerly the Vice-Chair for Education, and the director of the General and Geriatric Psychiatry training programs at the University of Hawaii, JABSOM.
Dr. Ahmed is certified by the ABPN in Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Ahmed serves on the Psychiatry Council and as the Chair of the Psychiatry ABCC Committee and the Vice Chair of the Geriatric Psychiatry ABCC Committee.
Dr. Ahmed was a member of the ACGME Psychiatry Residency Review Committee, and the chair of the Geriatric Psychiatry Milestones work group. He was the Associate Editor for the Adult Psychiatry Resident In-Training Examination (PRITE). He is a member of the Board of Regents for the American College of Psychiatrists. He was a President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and was a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Assembly. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award and the Jack Weinberg Award of the APA. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) and the recipient of the Bowis Award by the American College of Psychiatrists. He is an author and co-editor of the book Mental Health in Older People Across Cultures (Oxford University Press, 2025).
