Benn E. Smith, MD
Dr. Smith is Associate Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Scottsdale, Arizona. He is the Director of the Sensory Laboratory and a Consultant for the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic.
He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine, and participates in continuing certification. He also is certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Smith serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.
Dr. Smith has served as the co-director of the biannual Mayo Clinic EMG/EEG Clinical Neurophysiology Course in Phoenix, Arizona, for a number of years. In addition to ABPN, he has been involved in leadership and committee positions with the AAN and AANEM for the last decade. His research focuses on measuring sensory function, identifying new patterns of peripheral neuropathy deficits and use of novel techniques such as contact heat evoked potential stimulation to study spinothalamic and other small diameter nerve fiber pathways.
